Project Test Scenario Updates Not Reflecting in Test Runs if an ACtion Word

#1

It may be something we are not doing correctly but:-

  1. Created Test Scenarios
  2. Steps were made Action Words
  3. Created Test Runs
  4. Wanted to change Test Scenarios & have these reflected in new Test Run
  5. Tests updated
  6. New Run whether selected as “Same selection as an existing test run” OR “Select a subset of tests” does not reflect the Modifications
  7. However if the step is made as an Action rather than an Action Word, after modifications, subsequent New Test Run reflects change whether selected as “Same selection as an existing test run” OR “Select a subset of tests”

How can we get Action Word change to reflect in subsequent Test Runs Please?
Are we doing something wrong or is this a bug?
Seems awfully long winded having to create a new step as Action & delete Action Word & defeats purpose to a degree of Action Words

THANKS

Hi

How can we get Action Word change to reflect in subsequent Test Runs Please?

did you try to sync the test run from which you create subsequent test run?

#3

Hi No Sync Test Run makes no difference

Syncing the specific step doesn’t work?
Have you verified that it is the same actionword? sometimes there’s a space afterwards or some other character which makes it look like it’s the same action word when it’s not.

Federico, a valid point and agree you can get caught out that way, that was the first thing I checked.
I have now had a conference call with Hiptest team who were fantastically helpful as normal. Their service is second to none.
The issue related to creating an Action Word via "Promote step as Action Word"
When we used this at a subsequent point, it was creating a step. Then when we updated from Test Scenario, Action Word Title is updated but step within is not. The step is what is shown in Test Scenario in Test Scenario but the Action Word Title is what is shown in Master Test Scenario. This is because an Action Word can have multiple steps whereas we are currently using it as one Action Word / one step with purpose of using it as a repeated step in multiple Test Scenarios and wanting the ability to update all Tests when changed or just one (as functionality currently allows multiple or single instance)
For it to work the way we want, just delete the step within the Action Word if Promote Step as an Action Word. Alternatively, Create ACtion Word when adding a new Test Step and a step is not created within Action Word & Action Word Title is your Test Step. Subsequent updates to a Test Step via Test SCenario then get reflected by either Synchronize of previous Test Run or when Create subsequent Test Runs.
Hope that helps, if not please shout.
Hiptest will also look at potential better ways to develop in order to failitate way we want to currently use Action Words afer a Conference call with them
